File tax returns on the Net

New Delhi, July 4: The finance ministry has launched Sampark 2003-04, a software for the preparation of returns on income which would enable tax-payers to fill in their returns in a prescribed format on the Net and take a print-out. Officials in the ministry said the software can also be downloaded in PCs from the website of income-tax department.

Duty drawback

New Delhi, July 4: On the request from exporters, the Central Board of Excise and Customs has extended the drive to release duty drawback till July 31 from the earlier deadline of June 18, in order to achieve 100 per cent settlement of claims.

Repo rate cut

New Delhi, July 4: The Reserve Bank of India today said “there was no great urgency” for a repo rate cut while the softer monetary regime will continue. But analysts said rising forex inflows, sliding inflation coupled with appreciation of the rupee has stoked the necessity of the repo cut between 25-50 basis points.

Selloff meet

New Delhi, July 4: The Cabinet Committee on Disinvestment (CCD) is likely to meet on July 10 to take up, among other things, the highly successful public offer of shares in Maruti. Disinvestment minister Arun Shourie would brief CCD on the Maruti IPO.

Nalco move

New Delhi, July 4: National Aluminium Company today decided to delist its scrip from four regional bourses, including Calcutta and Delhi stock exchanges, while the government was preparing to disinvest its equity in the aluminium major.
