Maligaon: The seeds had it easy in the inaugural round of The Telegraph Schools Chess Championships 2003, which got under way here at the Netaji Vidyapith Railway High School. The entries swelled to 217 just before the commencement of the first round.

On top table, Rajib Dhar of Netaji Vidyapith Railway High School shrugged off the challenge from Babash Singha of Don Bosco High School, Guwahati, in just 10 moves.

Similarly, Sanjoy Singh of Kairang Primary School, Imphal, made mincemeat of Manideep Chakraborty of YWCA English School, Guwahati in 17 moves. Sashank Sing of Nichols High School (Guwahati), a rated player and Suranjana Talukdar of Disney Land High School, Guwahati got walkover.
