BCCI branch in Durgapur

Calcutta, June 30: Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), one of the oldest chambers in the country, will set up a branch in Durgapur to improve the social infrastructure of the “most important industrial town in West Bengal.”

This is the first time a premier chamber has taken the initiative to open a branch outside Calcutta. A high-level BCCI delegation will go to Durgapur on Tuesday to hold a meeting with local entrepreneurs prior to setting up a full fledged office.

BCCI president Sumit Majumdar said the initiative was aimed at growth, both in industry and quality of life. “The city has potential But the social infrastructure is not strong enough to attract investors. Our aim is to work in tandem with the local entrepreneurs and the government to make the city one of the most sought after investment destinations of the state,” he said.
