Agartala, June 29: BSF inspector-general Alexander Daniel has expressed alarm over Tripura militants colluding with criminals from Bangladesh.
Terming it an “alarming trend”, Daniel said over the past few months, militant outfits in the state were operating in tandem with Bangladeshi criminals based in the border areas. He also said ISI operatives in that country were helping the banned outfits. Daniel is in charge of the Tripura, Cachar and Mizoram sector of the force.
On the alleged role of the Bangladesh authorities in helping the outfits, he said: “The government there cannot be ignorant of the fact that anti-Indian militant outfits have set up bases on its soil.”
Addressing a news conference at the BSF headquarters here on the eve of the 20th raising day of the sector, Daniel said the NSCN, the Ulfa and the PLA were using Tripura as a corridor for trans-border movement to and from Bangladesh.
“At present, we have only 13 battalions and two more are coming shortly to keep a check on the long and porous border,” he said.
