India A start with victory

London: Opener Gautam Gambhir’s century helped India A beat British Universities by eight wickets in a one-day match — their first game on the tour of England — Wednesday.

Gambhir hammered 128 off 127 balls, hitting 21 boundaries, as the visitors comfortably overtook British Universities’ total of 221 for nine. The Indians made 224 for two from 42.3 overs.

Rohan Gavaskar made 41 with five boundaries while captain Hemang Badani scored an unbeaten 39. Leg-spinner Amit Mishra took four for 41 from ten overs, while Rohan chipped in with two for 31. (PTI)
