Jawan’s father shot dead

Srinagar June 23: Three members of a soldier’s family were gunned down by suspected militants in Kashmir.

The militants barged into the house of Abdul Ahad Dar, whose son is in the army and posted in the Valley, late last night at Lassipora in Kupwara.

“The gunmen opened heavy fire from their automatic weapons on the inmates, killing Dar and his son, Abdul Rashid. The daughter, who was critically injured, was shifted to SMHS Hospital where she succumbed to injuries this morning,” said a police spokesperson. Security forces and the police visited the spot this morning.

In another incident, two civilians were killed and 40 wounded when militants lobbed a grenade at security forces near the main bus stand at Shopian in Pulwama district this afternoon. The explosion follows a visit by chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to Shopian yesterday.

In the Gagal forests, two civilians were killed and three injured in an exchange of fire between militants and security forces this afternoon.

The forest area is being searched.
