Paes, Johnson fall in final

Calcutta: Leander Paes failed to add to his 27 doubles titles as he and Donald Johnson fell at the final hurdle of the $380,000 Ordina Open, a grasscourt meet in Den Bosch.

According to information received here, the top seeds lost 5-7, 6-7 (4-7) to No. 2 seeds Martin Damm and Cyril Suk of Czech Republic Sunday.

In the semi-final on Saturday, the Indo-American pair had beaten Dutch duo Martin Verkerk and Ramon Sluiter 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

With regular partner David Rikl taking a fortnight’s break after the French Open semi-final loss, Paes teamed up with former world champion Johnson to warm up for Wimbledon.
