North Korea retain crown

Bangkok, June 21 (Agencies): North Korea retained the AFC women’s championship with a 2-1 win against China in the final Saturday.

After finishing 1-1 in regulation time, the North Koreans clinched the issue via a golden goal strike by Ri-Kum suk after they were awarded a penalty.

Earlier, the North Koreans took the lead against the run of play in the 41st minute when Ri put the ball in following a faulty clearance by a Chinese defender.

However, China drew parity in the 61st minute when Gao’s header beat the North Korean ’keeper.

South Korea third

Meanwhile, South Korea clinched the third spot beating Japan 1-0 in the third-place play-off. Midfielder Hwang In-sun scored the winner in the 18th minute.

North Korea, China and South Korea qualify for the women’s World Cup in the US while Japan will have to beat Mexico in a play-off in July.
