Mamata probe push

New Delhi, June 21: The NDA has decided to send a fact-finding team to West Bengal to inquire into the “atrocities” on Trinamul Congress workers allegedly by the CPM cadre.

This decision was taken at an NDA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee tonight after Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee made a forceful plea against the CPM. The team will submit a report on its findings with the government.

The NDA has also decided to send another fact-finding team to Punjab to probe into the alleged harassment of Akali Dal leaders, including former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family members, by the Congress government in the state.

Sources said Banerjee gave a detailed account to the NDA leaders of the “happenings” in Bengal before and after the panchayat election. According to the Trinamul, a number of its party workers have been killed, women and wives of Trinamul workers raped, houses looted, filing of nomination papers obstructed and Trinamul workers prevented from casting their votes.
