Ranaghat, June 21: Cheema Sardar, the kingpin in the Dhantola loot-and-rape case, was produced before the sub-divisional judicial magistrate here today for the first time since his arrest on April 11. The magistrate remanded him in judicial custody for 12 days.

Cheema had allegedly shot dead bus driver Samir Ghosh when his gang waylaid two buses carrying wedding guests on February 5 and raped seven women, including minors.

Police arrested 20 people, including two CPM leaders, Subal Bagchi and Saidul Karigar, and Cheema, in connection with the incident and charged them with masterminding the crime.
