Tanmoy emerges best

Tanmoy Pattanayak emerged champion with eight points in the all-Bengal under-16 rapid chess tournament at Barisha Netaji Sangha Sunday. Three players ó Joydeep Dutta, Sumit Shaw and Sourav Bose ó finished with 7.5 points but Joydeep took the second spot by dint of better progressive score. Sumit was third .

THE WINNERS: BOYS ó Under-16: Tanmoy Pattanayak. Under-14: Hardik Roy. Under-12: Natun Dasgupta. Under-10: Poulasta Kar. Under-8: Indranil Chattopaddhyay. Under-6: Rahul Deb Das. GIRLS ó Under-14: Anu Gupta. Under-12: Sriya Bhattacharjee. Under-10: Chandrima Ghosh. Under-8: Agnihotri Ghosh. Under-6: Tamishra Das.

Natl B qualifiers

Shanker Roy, Joydeb Saha, Swapan Kumar Mitra and Debashish Mukherjee will represent Bengal in the National B chess championship. They occupied the first four spots in the qualifying championship.

Sewa, Vimal win

Vinod Sewa and Ragini Vimal won the menís and womenís titles of the Cossipore hard-court meet Sunday. While Sewa beat Rupesh Roy 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the menís final, Ragini blacked out Soma Banerjee 6-0, 6-0 in the womenís final. In menís doubles final, Vinod and Rupesh beat N. K. Sewa and Robin Das 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
