Bank scam

Ahmedabad, June 11: Newly-appointed administrator of Panchmahal District Cooperative Bank J.J. Mehta has lodged an FIR against state minister Prabhatsinh Chauhan, former BJP MP Gopalsinh Solanki, two BJP MLAs and four former Congress workers in connection with the Rs 124-crore cooperative bank scam.

Solanki was the chairman of the district cooperative while state cow breeding and pilgrimage development minister Chauhan was his deputy before the state government appointed an administrator last month to look into complaints of alleged irregularities.

One month after his appointment as administrator, Mehta lodged police complaint against 29 persons, including the state minister and former BJP MP, for defrauding. In his complaint the administrator alleged that Chauhan and Sonlanki had violated cooperative norms by giving Rs 124 crore loan to two mandalis(local committees).

Chauhan claims that he did not commit any crime. The loan, he says , was given to committees to tackle drought situation. When contacted, cooperative minister Bhupendra Chudasama said he had asked for details and that “law will take its own course”.

The home minister Amit Shah has also called the investigating police offer of Dahod where an FIR has been lodged to Ahmedabad tomorrow morning with all

information regarding the alleged scam .

A day after FIR was lodge, no one involved in the alleged scam has been interrogated by the police.

The minister, meanwhile, who was in Gandhinagar today also attended the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Narendra Modi.
