Rape charge on DYFI member

Krishnagar, June 10: Nadia police have instructed their Ranaghat colleagues to file a case against a local DYFI member for allegedly raping a minor girl on Saturday.

The victim’s father said police had refused to accept an FIR, saying they were busy with the Nabadwip Lok Sabha bypoll. The district police got wind of the incident and ordered action against Tarun Sarkar after the district hospital confirmed the crime.

“I and some of our relatives took her to the district hospital in Krishnagar and the doctors there confirmed that my daughter had been raped,” said the father.

The rickshaw-van driver accused Sarkar of luring his 12-year-old daughter to an abandoned house and raping her on June 7.

Another DYFI leader was accused of rape in Kharagpur during the weekend.
