IFA asks for

better ground conditions

IFA league sub-committee members have been asked to improve conditions of grounds where matches in the lower divisions of the league are played. The IFA secretary Subrata Dutta Monday met the league sub-committee members and it is understood that they have been asked to monitor the ground conditions in person.

The meeting assumed importance following a couple of in cidents in the past week. Last Tuesday, a nail protruding from a goalpost at the High Court ground cut Uma Shankar Roy’s foot. The third division player needed 22 stitches. On Saturday, Shyamapada Mohanti of Greer was injured when he collided with a generator kept along the sideline at the club ground.

Prabuddha Ghosh pipped Suman Basu to the under-13 boys’ title on progressive score in the 15th state age group chess championships Monday.

Schools’ cricket

Jadavpur Vidyapith cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Naktala High School to emerge champions in the under-16 inter-school cricket meet.

BRIEF SCORES: Naktala HS 87 (D. Bose 43; Priyojyoti Biswas 3/8). Jadavpur Vidyapith 88/2 (Somak Das 43). Jadavpur Vidyapith won by 8 wkts.
