Utpal, Sambaran for meet

Utpal Chatterjee and Sambaran Banerjee will represent Bengal at the captains and coaches meeting of Ranji Trophy sides in Mumbai Friday. Rohan Gavaskar, who led Bengal last season, is at the India A camp in Bangalore and will thus miss out on the Mumbai conclave.

800 for state athletics

More than 800 athletes will take part in the 53rd state athletics meet at the Salt Lake Stadium from Thursday. The two biggest names, Asian Games gold-medallists Saraswati Dey and Soma Biswas, will however be conspicuous by their absence. While Saraswati has an injury, Soma is busy preparing for foreign assignments. The three-day meet will feature 146 events.

Rakhi Sangha best

Rakhi Sangha beat Tarun Byayam Sangha 47-32 to emerge champions in the sub-junior state basketball championship Tuesday. Tarun Thakur was the highest scorer for the winners with 14 points.

Shield clusters

Milan Bithee held SAIL goalless in a Tata Steel IFA Shield cluster meet match Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Rampur MS drew 2-2 with Itika Memorial in a state women’s league match.

Jr basketball

Julfikar Alam and Rekha Das will lead the boys and girls teams in the junior national basketball meet in Ludhiana from Saturday.
