Calcutta, May 26: The government
will soon receive Rs 675 crore from British funding agency
Department for International Development to improve civic
facilities in 40 municipal areas.
“The UK government has given the nod and we have been informed about it by the Union ministry of urban development,” a municipal affairs official said. The project, Calcutta Urban Services for the Poor, worth Rs 700 crore (the state will provide Rs 25 crore) will help better 38 civic bodies in the CMDA area and the corporations in Howrah and Chandernagore.
“There are three components — capacity building of local bodies, infrastructure development, and economic development of the poor,” said an official.
