Front allies talk peace

Canning (South 24-Parganas) May 25: District leaders of the CPM and the RSP met at the office of the subdivisional officer here today to find ways to rehabilitate those rendered homeless following violence before and after the panchayat poll.

The leaders had earlier met at the office of the superintendent of police in Alipore on May 16 to thrash out the same issue.

The four-hour meeting today decided that a Left Front rally will be held on May 27 at Charavidya. The “process of rehabilitation in Canning and Basanti will start” that day. Three RSP offices that were shut down by alleged CPM cadre will also reopen.

Rajdhani time row

Passengers of Rajdhani Express today agitated at Howrah station after they found the train had left “much before schedule”.

Railway officials said the departure time of the Rajdhani via Patna was changed from 5 pm to 1.45 pm and it was announced through newspaper advertisements. But about 126 passengers missed them. In the evening, 111 passengers were accommodated in another train, the rest took refund.
