Tribals raped in Bihar

Patna, May 22: Three tribal girls aged 14 to 20 were gangraped last night at a brick kiln at Kharjama village in Bihar’s Nalanda district.

Medical tests confirmed that the girls, hailing from Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district, had been raped. Their relatives have been informed.

Two of the six alleged rapists, Kameswar Beldar and Surendra Mistri, have been arrested. They are being interrogated at Islampur police station.

Police superintendent Amit Lodha said the armed rapists had swooped on the kiln, beaten the owner and locked him up before turning on the women. The girls’ screams failed to rouse villagers.

Lodha said the girls’ statement had been recorded and FIRs drawn up. He added that the profusely bleeding girls were being treated at the Sadar hospital here.
