Nabi stays with Mohammedan Sporting

Mohammedan Sporting have assured themselves of the services of Syed Rahim Nabi for one more season. The promising young striker, who was whisked away by club officials from Howrah station soon after he returned with the under-21 national title-winning Bengal team, is expected to sign across the dotted lines on Friday.

Rakhi Sangha in both finals

Rakhi Sangha made the finals of both the boys’ and girls’ events in the Milo state junior basketball championships Tuesday. The boys beat BBYS 58-40 in the evening section and will meet the winners of the Burdwan District versus Chetla Park match.

In the girls’ semis, Rakhi Sangha outplayed Birbhum District 44-27 while South 24 Parganas overcame Calcutta Good Counsel 24-17.

Calcutta Cup

Naboday CCC beat Tegharia CCC by 85 runs in the Vijay Sports-organised Calcutta Cup meet Tuesday.

BRIEF SCORES: Naboday CCC 227/4 (Amitava Roy 67, Arnab Roy 36). Tegharia CCC 142/8 (Himadri Bij 33 n.o.; D.S. Suryabanshi 4/8). Naboday won by 85 runs.

Concrete galleries

Sports minister Subhas Chakraborty Tuesday urged PWD minister Amar Chowdhury to expedite the construction of concrete galleries at East Bengal and Mohun Bagan grounds to have them completed before the Super Division gets underway. According to Chowdhury, the PWD will construct galleries with a capacity of 7,000 each at the two grounds and one of 4,000 at the Mohammedan Sporting ground.

Boxer felicitated

Santosh Kumar Thakur, who won gold in the light flyweight category of the 8th Federation Cup boxing meet in Goa recently, was felicitated by his employers South Eastern Railway on Tuesday.
