Calcutta, May 20: Buoyed by the Prime Minister’s indication that she will be reinducted into the Union Cabinet, Mamata Banerjee spent the day talking to party MPs and MLAs to make Friday’s Trinamul Congress rally a hit.
Party MP from Barasat Ranjit Panja called on the Trinamul chief at her south Calcutta residence and promised to bring in “people from villages”. Several other senior leaders met her to discuss strategy for the rally, to be held at the foot of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on Mayo Road.
“We have also written to state BJP president Tathagata Roy seeking the party’s participation at the meeting,” said Trinamul MLA from Behala (West) Partha Chatterjee, who held a meeting with other south Calcutta councillors during the day.
Trinamul sources said Mamata will leave for Delhi either on Friday night or Saturday morning. The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Europe early next week. Sources said there is possibility that Mamata would be sworn in before Atal Bihari Vajpayee leaves the country.
