Heavyweight rocket launch

Bangalore, May 5 (Reuters): The Indian Space Research Organisation today said it would hold a second test later this week for its heaviest satellite launch rocket yet, and that it was in talks with global firms to tap business opportunities.

Chairman of the space agency K. Kasturigangan told a news conference that the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle would be launched from Sriharikota on the Bay of Bengal coast on Thursday.

The test would be the second after a successful first launch in 2001, days after an aborted attempt. This week, the payload will be a heavier communications satellite weighing 1.8 tonnes compared with the earlier 1.5-tonne satellite, officials of the organisation said.
