Direct tax collection up 20%

New Delhi, May 5:The Centre’s direct tax collection was up 20.39 per cent at Rs 82,071 crore during 2002-03 compared with Rs 68,170 crore in 2001-02. It was due to an impressive 27 per cent surge in corporation tax collection. Corporation tax mop up grew 27 per cent to Rs 46,266 crore during the last fiscal compared with Rs 36,427 crore in 2001-02. Income tax collection was up 12.8 per cent at Rs 35,805 crore during the last fiscal compared with Rs 31,742 crore in the previous fiscal.

Jessop selloff

Calcutta, May 5:The Calcutta High Court today adjourned till May 15 an appeal by the Jessop staff association against an earlier order that said the company was not in the strategic sector.

BSES loan

Mumbai, May 5:BSES Ltd has mandated ABN AMRO Bank, Citigroup Global Markets, Singapore Merchant Bank Ltd, Rabobank’s Singapore branch and Standard Chartered Bank to arrange a five-year $ 100 million foreign currency term loan.
