National roller skating from tomorrow

The 40th national roller skating championships will start in the city from Sunday at the SAI, Eastern Centre. The state association had earlier hosted the meet in 1974, 1975, 1991 and 1996. About 1000 participants from 18 states will take part in the six-day event. While Andhra Pradesh have the maximum number of participants, Bengal will field 30 skaters. Meanwhile, the Roller Skating Federation of India has been backed by the state government in their bid for the 2005 Asian championships in the city. It was also learnt that roller skating will be introduced in the Doha Asian Games in 2006.

EB sign Musah, Duley

East Bengal signed Suley Musah and Shasthi Duley on the first day of the inter-club transfers Friday. Mohun Bagan, meanwhile, retained Sunil Chettri. Bagan also confirmed Manitombi Singh of Salgaocar and Babun Kar of Bhratri Sangha, but their efforts to get Dharamjit Singh and Tomba Singh fell flat.

Bahadur hattrick

Krishna Bahadurís hattrick helped Vivekananda Pally Kishore Bharati HS thrash Kankurgachi Vivekananda Vidyapith 9-0 in the Calcutta leg of the Anandabazar Cup Friday. In another match, Chowbhaga HS beat Lee Collins HS 4-2.

N.C. Kolay meet

Avijit Boseís four for 27 and unbeaten 35 helped Sinthee Roy Para CCC beat Sursuna CCC in the N.C. Kolay Memorial quarter final match Friday.
