Case against truant doctor

Ranaghat (Nadia), April 29: The sub-divisional judicial magistrate here today asked police to start a suo-motu case against a doctor for “alleged negligence” due to which a youth had died while under his treatment.

On April 1, Prahlad Sarkar of Joygopalpur in Ranaghat was admitted to the sub-divisional hospital after he was injured in a football match. The father, Atul Sarkar, said his condition started deteriorating from the third day.

“When Prahlad’s condition worsened, my elder son went to Rahaman Alam, the doctor. But he could not be located. A hospital staff said he was in a private dispensary.” Magistrate Yasmin Fatma asked the police to “treat Atul’s complaint as an FIR”.
