More time to file tax returns

New Delhi, April 28:The government today extended the last date for filing income tax returns for 2002-03 to September 30. The extension is despite the provisions in the Income Tax Act envisaging that annual returns for tax deducted at source under various sections of the Act are to be furnished at the end of April, May or June of the financial year.

IDBI boost

New Delhi, April 28: The committee on public undertakings today asked the government to stipulate a portion of provident, pension and postal savings funds to be compulsorily invested in IDBI, besides granting “special” support to improve its financial health.

New Delhi, April 28: India will ask for differential treatment in the tariff reduction rate on agricultural and non-agricultural products between the developed and developing countries at the forthcoming WTO talks, commerce minister Arun Jaitley said.
