Night raid nets goon

Late on Wednesday, Salt Lake police swooped down on a hideout near Calcutta airport’s gate no. III and arrested gangster Kamal Das. He has two dozen murder and extortion cases pending against him in Dum Dum and Lake Town police stations, according to additional superintendent of police Ajay Nand.

“Das was a key aide of Pinaki Mitra, a criminal who allegedly took shelter with his henchmen in the dormitories of Salt Lake stadium earlier,’’ Nand said.

He had fallen out with Pinaki after the murder of associate Nona Roy. “He found out that Pinaki had engineered the killing and was also plotting to murder him,’’ Nand said. Das has a house at Srinagar, in Madhyamgram, but had been on the run after the stadium flushout.
