Vendor tantrum in temple visit

The Kalighat temple draws devotees from far-flung places, but the behaviour of shopkeepers in the vicinity of the temple often spoils the mood. The vendors charge exorbitant prices for puja offerings like flowers, garlands, incense sticks and peras. The quality of peras, too, has deteriorated to a large extent. Many people just donít visit the temple for fear of being harassed.

Road logic

A portion of Jessore Road, between Patipukur and Nagerbazar, is being widened. For this, the authorities have decided to reduce pavement space. This is a very irrational move, as the narrow kerb will force pedestrians to walk along the busy road.

Step in line

The lack of a level-crossing near the Loha Pool rail line can cause a mishap any day. The authorities must take steps.
