The supply of commodities, like fish and eggs from other states, was hit on Tuesday with the nationwide truckers’ strike entering its second day.
Three hundred eighty-five transport bodies affiliated to the All India Motor Transport Congress and the All India Confederation of Goods Vehicles Owners’ Association have called the strike to press for a 10-point charter of demands, including stable fuel prices and withdrawal of a proposed cess on diesel.
A transport department officer said the situation will be reviewed on Wednesday when the government’s course of action will be decided. In Bengal, transporters will join the strike after 3 pm on Wednesday.
