Ranadeb in U-25 squad

Ranadeb Bose, Sabir Ali and Indrajit Ghatak made it to the Bengal squad for the BCCI-organised under-25 meet match against Orissa to be held from Thursday through Saturday at Eden Gardens. Sourav Sarkar, Ambar Roy and Subhajit Paul were dropped from the squad which did duty in the last match against Tripura in Agartala.

Safi fires 146

Safi Ahmed guided East Bengal to an imposing 429 for eight against Wari AC in the quarter finals of JC Mukherjee Trophy on Tuesday. Ahmed made 146 — his fourth century of the season — and Charanjit Singh hit 73.

Ram scores 6

Chandannagar Sri Siksha Niketan rode a six-star performance from Ram Sarkar to make the Chandannagar-leg final of the Britannia Anandabazar Cup inter-school football meet on Tuesday. In the semi-finals, they blanked out Kanailal Vidya Mandir 10-0.

Sandip Das, Manab Das, Shyamal Mondal and Kesto Das scored the other four goals.In the final, Chandannagar Sri Siksha Niketan will take on Prabartak Vidyarthi Bhavan, 4-0 victors over Narua Siksha Niketan in the other semi-final.

Debashish, Snehalata best

l Debashish Das of Chittaranjan College and Snehalata Chakraborty of Serampore College emerged the fastest man and woman, respectively, in the fourth inter-non government college athletic meet at Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday. While Debashish timed 11.0 seconds to win the 100 metres event, Snehlata’s timing was 12.7 seconds.
