Air India in final leg

Thiruvananthapuram, April 5 (PTI): Fancied Air India drew goalless with State Bank of Travancore and qualifed for the four-team final leg of the second division National Football League at the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium here this evening.

Air India have completed all their group A matches, topping with 11 points.

The match between Border Security Force and Tata Football Academy tomorrow will decide the second qualifier. SBT have ten points from five matches while BSF seven points from four matches.

BSF needed at least a six-goal win over TFA to qualify.

Tomorrow FC Kochin will meet Assam State Electricity Board, as BSF take on TFA.

In Jamshedpur’s group B matches, Punjab Police defeated Manipur Police 3-1, while Kerala’s Titanium held Allwyn Hindustan 1-1.

In the first match, the spirited Punjab Police did not give the Manipur Police team to settle as they were ahead by two goals in the first six minutes of the encounter.

Sukhjit Singh drew first blood with a measured right footer in the third minute and midfielder Gurbinder Singh increased the margin three minutes later.

Manipur Police reduced the margin in the 33rd minute when forward Shyam Chand Singh placed the ball into the net after receiving a centre.
