Man lynched in Pandua

A dacoit was beaten to death by a mob at Pandua, in Hooghly, on Friday night after a gang of three burgled several houses near Itachuna College.

As the dacoits stepped out of a house with their loot of cash and jewellery, the family cried out for help. Their screams alerted the neighbours who chased the gang and managed to catch one, police said. “The youth, in his 20s, was lynched by the people,” said Ajay Kumar, superintendent of police, Hooghly, on Saturday. “Three persons have been arrested in connection with the dacoity,” Kumar said. A cache of arms was recovered from them.

nSuicide: Chitra Ghosh, 57, a resident of HB Block in Salt Lake, committed suicide on Saturday evening by consuming poison, police said. Ghosh had reportedly been suffering from depression.
