No right to walk by Writers’

Will the authorities concerned please take note of the hardships faced by numerous pedestrians while walking along the footpath beside Writers’ Buildings, on the Brabourne Road side' The entire stretch is dotted with stalls and makeshift eateries. Office-goers jostle with the food vendors for a foothold. Despite frequent eviction drives conducted by the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, the eateries spring up again. Are these drives only an eyewash' The Writers’ is a high security zone, but the Calcutta Police does not seem to care. Isn’t the top brass bothered either'

Short change

Most overseas and Indian banks now offer 24-hour ATM facilities to their customers. But the system of operation is such that one can only get denominations of Rs 500. The banks must realise that we also require denominations of Rs 100 and Rs 50. Is it too difficult for them to introduce this facility'
