Two dead in Howrah

Two persons were killed and seven injured in an accident on Andul Road in Howrah on Saturday. The mishap occurred when a Calcutta-bound truck from Digha, carrying 15 fishermen, lost control and overturned.

The truck driver and a fisherman who died on the spot have not been identified. According to police, the truck first hit a lamp-post and then a wall of Botanical Garden. The seven injured fishermen were admitted to Howrah General Hospital, where two are in critical condition.

nPower cuts: Joka, Bishnupur and Amtola on the city’s southern fringes suffered prolonged power cuts on Saturday evening, following a blast at a State Electricity Board transformer at Joka.
