Bombay XI, BSF make quarters

Border Security Force (Jullandhar) and Bombay XI sailed into the quarter finals, while Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) defeated FCI to enter the pre-quarter finals of the Indian Oil Servo Beighton Cup hockey tournament Wednesday.

The BSF-Karnataka XI match ended goalless at the end of scheduled time following which the secuirtymen won 4-3 via the tie-breaker.

Bombay XI squandered their early lead to be finish regulation time at 2-2 against Tamil Nadu XI, but won 12-11 through tie-breaker. CISF beat FCI 4-0, the goals coming from Mongra Munda, Bharat Kumar, Cyril Ekka and Paramveer.

Wari 330/9

Wari rode Dibyendu Chakrabortyís 113 to reach 330 for nine at close on the opening day of their J.C. Mukherjee Trophy pre-quarter final tie against Tapan Memorial.

Kabaddi meet

More than 500 players will take part in the two-day 19th inter-district kabaddi meet at WBKA ground from Friday. The menís section will feature 16 districts while 14 will vie for honours among the women.

ERSA win

ERSA moved closer to the first division group A womenís volleyball title when they beat Bijoyee Sangha 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. In other matches, Dharmatala BS beat Tollygunge Subhas Sangha 25-16, 23-25, 25-16, 25-5 while Kalyan Parishad overcame Santoshpur Unnayan Samity 25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20.
