Tourist fee

Bolpur, March 24: The Shantiniketan-Sriniketan Development Authority (SSDA) today imposed a “development fee” of Rs 5 for tourist groups, reports our correspondent.

The fee will be collected by the hotels and lodges where the groups check in and handed over to the SSDA.

SSDA chairman Somenath Chatterjee, who held a meeting with the hoteliers’ association and the district magistrate today, said the funds would be used to develop the infrastructure of the region.

Birbhum district magistrate Barun Roy said a similar fee would be levied on visitors at Tarapith.
