EPF rate review on March 28

New Delhi, March 23: Under pressure from the finance ministry to lower the interest rate on employees provident fund (EPF) from the present 9.5 per cent, the EPF board is likely to meet on March 28 to review the rates for 2003-04. The meeting of central board of trustees of EPFO would be held in the backdrop of the proposed 1 per cent cut in the interest rate on special deposit scheme, which comprises over 80 per cent of the EPF corpus.

Enron probe

New Delhi, March 23: The Kurdukar Commission, probing the legality of Enron’s Dabhol power project, would deliver its verdict on whether it could investigate the Central approvals granted to this multi-crore venture on Monday.

New Delhi, March 23: During the first 10 months of this fiscal telecom companies provided 68,88,294 new telephone (fixed-line and cellular) connections compared with 52,22,137 in the previous corresponding period.

CII-Ascon study

New Delhi, March 23: The CII-Ascon Survey has indicated that industry is slated to witness a strong 6.5 per cent growth during this fiscal, and the momentum would continue in the next fiscal if the Iraq war is short and India has a good monsoon.

New Delhi, March 23: The government has asked Reliance Petroleum and Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd to ramp up production to bridge any shortfalls in supplies of petroleum products that may occur due to the three-day strike by employees of HPCL and BPCL next week protesting the Centre’s privatisation move.
