New Delhi, March 21: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee may have cancelled his plans to travel to South Africa for Sunday’s World Cup final between India and Australia, but he has sent a personal message to the Indian team.

Sports minister Vikram Verma is carrying a letter from Vajpayee written to captain Sourav Ganguly and his boys.

The Prime Minister has also sent a cricket bat with a message inscribed — “World Cup mein Bharat vishwa vijayee ho, yashaswi ho aisi meri kaamna vah ishwar se prarthna hai (I wish and pray to God that India emerges victorious in the World Cup and wins laurels).”

Several members of Parliament cutting across party lines have been demanding that the Bharat Ratna be awarded to Sachin Tendulkar.

Verma said: “When the team returns home, it will be given a rousing reception in Delhi in the presence of the Prime Minister.”
