State blind to 50-year-old school
SEAT OF LEARNING: Broken furniture at Sahapur Mathuranath Vidyapith. Pictures by Kishor Roy Chowdhury

Biman Chakraborty: I am headmaster of Sahapur Mathuranath Vidyapith. It is 50 years old. Presently, the school has about 1,000 students. But since its inception, it has not received any government help. The school has no facilities for imparting modern education. There arenít even enough benches to seat the students.

It is really distressing that a city school is running without the minimum of facilities. However, I shall try to help as far as possible. In the coming financial year, I shall grant Rs 3 lakh from my MLAís fund to tide over the crisis. Please keep me posted so that I can move the education minister for financial aid that is required to run the school.
