Inflation steady at 4.91 %
New Delhi, March 9: Showing signs of resilience in the economy amid fears of a war on Iraq, the rate of inflation stood firm at the previous week’s level of 4.91 per cent for the week ended February 22. It was at a mere 1.58 per cent in the corresponding period a year ago. The wholesale price index rose marginally by 0.1 per cent to 168.9 from the previous week’s figure of 168.8 mainly due to an increase in the price of primary articles and manufactured products.
New Delhi, March 9: Aiming to intensify their stir against value added tax (VAT), traders from 14 states are expected to meet here on Monday to protest against the Centre’s implementation of VAT throughout the country from April.
Calcutta, March 9: All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) and All India State Bank Officers’ Federation (AISBOF) general secretary Shantha Raju today expressed ‘unhappiness’ over the slow pace of negotiations with regard to salary revision and threatened to call a day’s strike soon.
