Fishermen sent back

Calcutta, March 7: Of the more than 250 Bangladeshi fishermen languishing in Alipore Central Jail, 233 were released today and pushed back across the border. They were arrested in December after “inadvertently” crossing into India’s territorial waters.

Jail superintendent Ramapada Bhattacharya said 137 fishermen were taken by road to be deported through the Haridaspur border. The remaining 96 had travelled by boats to reach the Basirhar-Samsernagar border.
