Bengal lose

Calcutta: Bengal crashed to their third consecutive defeat losing to Maharashtra by 15 runs in the national one-day meet in Chennai Wednesday.

According to information received here, chasing Maharashtra’s 237 for victory, Bengal were all out for 221, Deep Dasgupta making 64 and Rohan Gavaskar 48.

BRIEF SCOREs

Maharashtra 236 (Ranadeb Bose 3/22, Utpal Chatterjee 2/35).

Bengal 221 (Deep Dasgupta 64, Rohan Gavaskar 48) Maharashtra won by 15 runs.

Karnataka take lead

Meanwhile, Kerala’s K. N. Ananthapadmanabhan grabbed four wickets but could not prevent Karnataka from gaining the vital first innings lead on Day II of their Ranji Trophy plate final in Bangalore Wednesday.

At stumps, the former champions were 293 for five, Arun Kumar and debutant Sudhindra Shinde making 84. Earlier, Kerala were all out for 190.
