2nd div. knockout title for Sporting Union

Sporting Union, who suffered the ignominy of relegation for the first time in their illustrious history last season, took the first step towards returning to where they belonged on Sunday. They beat Calcutta Gymkhana in a tight finish to clinch the CAB second division knockout championship.

BRIEF SCORES Calcutta Gymkhana 202/4 (Sarbajeet Das 81, Rajesh Shaw 36). Sporting Union 203/8 (Ajoy Verma 52, Abhigyan Mukherjee 38 not out). Sporting Union won by 8 wkts.

College meet

Chittaranjan College swamped B.P. Poddar Institute of Management and Engineering by 287 runs in a CAB inter-college meet match Monday. Pratip Banerjee hit 125, while Dipanjan Chakraborty scored an unbeaten 102 for the winners.

BRIEF SCORES Chittaranjan 401/4 in 45 ovs (Pratip Banerjee 125, Dipanjan Chakraborty 102 not out, Sabir Hussain 52 not out, Kajal Das 51). B.P. Poddar 114 in 31 ovs (Pradip Sen 5/25).

Ashim, Aloke felicitated

Tollygunge Agragami Monday felicitated striker Ashim Biswas and coach Aloke Mukherjee for having earned India colours. The duo was presented with mementoes and other gifts.
