Qatar plans women’s soccer team

Calcutta: Women’s football in the Middle East has achieved a major breakthrough with Qatar taking steps to form a national team.

In a letter to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Qatar Football Association general secretary Saud Al Mohannadi stated that as a first step, a coaching course for women will be held in March.

According to an AFC release, the course will be conducted for ten days under a qualified women’s football coach.

“Qatar’s initiative is a boost to women’s football not only in Qatar but to Asia,” said AFC secretary general Peter Velappan.
