Core sector growth dips to 4.1 % in Jan

New Delhi, Feb. 24 (PTI): Growth of six key infrastructure sectors plummeted to 4.1 per cent in January against 7.1 per cent in the corresponding period a year earlier. Cumulative growth during April-January 2002-03 was, however, higher at 5.2 per cent against 3.1 per cent in the year-ago period.

As per the official data released today, low growth in January was mainly on account of poor performance in four sectors petroleum refinery, coal, cement and finished steel, which registered lower growth rates compared with the corresponding period a year ago.

The only sector which showed recovery was the crude petroleum sector, which came out of the negative to register a 0.4 per cent growth in January.
