Beighton draws top teams

Top Indian teams Punjab Police, Punjab and Sindh Bank, Indian Airlines and Air India are likely to participate in the Beighton Cup this season. Ten outstation teams and 12 state teams will play in the meet. The Bangladesh senior team may also be in the fray. The meetstarts at the Mohun Bagan ground on March 22 and will continue till April 4.

University team

A Combined University team is likely to play in the national under-25 tournament scheduled to start in March. The University authorities has sent a proposal to the BCCI and a decision is awaited soon. Meanwhile, a Combined University squad was announced Tuesday. Two from Calcutta University, Subhankar Das and Ajay Kurmi, have been included.

National in final

National High School moved into the final of the Pepsi CAB inter-school tournament beating St Lawrence by eight wickets.

BRIEF SCORES: St. Lawrence 183 (Abhirup Chowdhury 66, Harsh Vardhan Saraf 44). National High School 186/2 (J.S. Raipur 86 n.o., Tamojit Ghosh 50). National High won by eight wickets.

District soccer

Chandannagore and South 24 Parganas won their matches in the IFA inter-district coaching camp tournament Tuesday. While Chandannagore beat Nadia 3-0, South 24 Parganas downed Burdwan 2-0.

Golf meet

Sonia Barman (66) led the field at the end of Day I of the Taj Trophy 54-holes golf meet at the Tollygunge Club Tuesday. She is followed by Chandra Das and Swaraj Sharma, both on 68.
