Mamata ends boycott

Calcutta, Feb. 14 (PTI): Almost six months after she shunned NDA meetings to protest the bifurcation of Eastern Railway, Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today decided to end the “boycott”.

“I am leaving for Delhi to attend the NDA meeting on February 16,” Mamata said.

The last Trinamul working committee meeting on August 13 had decided that unless the bifurcation decision was reversed the party would not be “part and parcel” of the NDA.

Party MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, Mamata’s once-trusted lieutenant, said: “It is a right decision to build bridges with the BJP. I am very happy.” Bandopadhyay was removed from the post of Trinamul chief whip in the Lok Sabha for meeting BJP leaders frequently.

Eve-teaser in the net

The owner of a shop in Bowbazar, Raju Saha, was picked up by police this evening while pawing a woman, says a staff reporter.

Saha spotted the woman near Sealdah station around 8.30 pm and stalked her. A police patrol swooped on him when he got close to her. He was the only catch in the police’s Valentine’s Day net.
