Cop thrashed in bribe bid

Krishnagar, Feb 14: A constable of the district Enforcement Branch was beaten up by residents this afternoon after he was caught asking for bribe from a compact disc shop at Kajipara in the Nabadwip area.

Gopal Sarkar had identified himself as a customs officer. He threatened owner Kinu Sheikh with dire consequences if he did not pay up.

When Sarkar failed to produce an I-card, Sheikh raised an alarm. A mob thrashed him. Officials from the Nabadwip police station rushed in to take custody of the constable.
