Cops suspended for molestation

Behrampore, Feb. 13: Two police constables were suspended and a departmental inquiry was ordered against them after a woman complained that they had molested her.

Police sources said the constables from Bareya police station had gone to look for the woman’s husband, Azijul Seikh, on Tuesday in connection with a case.

According to the complaint lodged by Nargis Biwi, the constables, Rakshit Sarkar and Bijan Mondal, came to her house drunk. After throwing out all the belongings in the room in the name of “searching for evidence”, they allegedly went after her. Nargis said she was molested. Sarkar and Mondal fled after she raised an alarm. They threatened her with “dire consequences” if she complained about whatever had happened.

The district’s additional superintendent of police, Shankar Singh, said: “I am overseeing the inquiry. I visited the place today and have started a departmental probe against the constables.”
