New Delhi, Feb. 11 (PTI): The appointment of National Human Rights Commission chairman has been held up with President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam not giving his nod even after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister cleared Justice A.S. Anandís name for the post a fortnight ago.
The names of Anand and two members for the commission were cleared on January 27 at the meeting, attended by among others deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, and were later sent to Kalam for his approval, sources said. The government, however, has not received his approval, they added.
Former law minister Ram Jethmalani has raised objections over Anandís name being cleared for the commissionís top post, saying the former chief justice of India was involved in some controversies.
