Bail for Bleach in assault case

Calcutta, Feb. 10: Purulia armsdrop accused Peter Bleach was produced in Bankshal Court today for having allegedly “assaulted” a fellow prisoner.

Following a complaint by Kamal Raut — Bleach’s fellow inmate at the Presidency Correctional Home — the jail authorities had forwarded the case to the Hastings police station. Raut had said that Bleach assaulted him when he went to his cell to serve food on November 7, 2002.

After a preliminary inquiry, police initiated a case under Sections 323 and 341 of the IPC.

Chief metropolitan magistrate S.C. Mishra granted bail to Bleach, who pleaded that he was not even aware of the charges. Mishra asked the investigating officers and the jail superintendent to explain why the British national had not been informed of the charges or arrested before being produced in court.
